Description
The Polylepis forest restoration project in Nor Yauyos Cochas Reserve is located in the districts of Miraflores, Vilca, Huancaya, and Alis on several extremely narrow micro-watersheds that feed the valley of the Cañete River (Lima). There are several communities participating in the restoration activities, and more than 300 families living in the highlands who benefit directly from the project. However, the water regulation and storage provided by the watersheds impacts several thousands of people. Local stakeholders including the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP) and the municipalities of Alis and Huancaya collaborate closely on the project.
