Description
The community of Aquia is located near the headwaters of the Pativilca and Santa River Basins at an altitude of over 3000m (9,843ft) above sea level in the buffer zone of the Huascaran National Park in Peru. It has important Polylepis forests that form a corridor between the Huayhuash Reserved Zone and Huascaran National Park. The project aims to create a protected area to conserve the region’s unique Polylepis forests and support endangered species like the White-cheeked Cotinga, Giant Conebill, and Andean Condor, while engaging the local community in long-term conservation efforts.
